The department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Caritas University Amorji-Nike Enugu was founded at the inception of the University in 2005. The department places a high premium on morals, learning and academic excellence. Electrical and Electronic Engineering have been involved in design and production of a vast array of electrical machines which are of essential services in homes, industries and commercial / business places. The generation of electrical power with its attendant transmission and distribution to consumers, the design and implementation of various communication gadgets including intercom systems, radio, television microwave, satellite and Rader systems and also in the design of electronic computer Solar energy production and so on are what the department stands for. The new trends in the evolutionary cycle of technological development have made computers indispensable to virtually all areas of technology so that electrical and electronics engineering now intimately involved not only with the computer architecture but also with their operating systems and software.

The department aims towards training Engineers (both in character / learning) who will upon graduation become useful problem solvers, designers job creators and production Engineers capable of participating actively in the engineering process thereby translating their knowledge into practical and meaningful products. Such a high objective towards building a good knowledge of science subjects which are the bedrocks of technological development, which is the main index of national growth and maturity. Evident also is practical attitude on the part of the student to relate his theoretical studies to actual and practical situations.

The department offers a five-year degree programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. During the first two years of the programme, the students take courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer programming and languages and of course other foundation courses that are common to some other departments in the University. Thereafter, the students then concentrate on the core departmental courses in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The second semester of the Fourth Year and the subsequent long vacation following the session are for industrial Attachment lasting for not less than six (6) months. The aim is to expose the students to some measure of industrial experience and opportunity for the application of Engineering principles learnt during the course of study. In the fifth year, the student concentrate on the area of specialization as well as undertaking a development or design project leading to a mandatory thesis before graduation.

Admission into the department is through University Matriculation Examination (UME), by direct entry and pre-degree programme of the University. The requirement for UME candidates is O'Level, credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The five credits must be obtained at not more than two sittings. Direct Entry candidates, in addition to O' Level requirements must be holders of A' Level with credit in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, or National Diploma of a recognized polytechnic with at least 2.50 CGPA will be considered on their individual merits.

COURSE DURATION: The duration of the programme is a minimum of 5 Academic Sessions (i.e. 10 Semesters) for UME candidates and 4 Academic Sessions (i.e. 8 semesters) for Direct Entry candidates according to National Universities Commission (NUC's) minimum standards.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS To be eligible for the Award of a degree of Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) with Honours in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, a student must successfully complete all his courses and satisfy both the internal and external examinations in the written and practical projects.
